Go and have an ice cream at the County Confectionery Fudge Shop on the harbour and you can eat it on one of the high stools inside and avoid the seagulls trying to pinch it! There’s loads of flavours to choose from as well, my favourite is the one with Maltesers in.
Gavin, Age 8 from Bristol
We took a stroll down the hill and enjoyed a delightful Capuccino in the Porthminster Café right on the beach, with wonderful views towards the harbour – we could have been anywhere in the world and it wouldn’t have been more special.
Peter & Eileen Neville, Bideford
I went to Paradise Park and I thought the Bird Show was brilliant, I even had an Owl called Busby standing on my arm!
Ellie, Age 7 from Bristol
We’ve been coming to St Ives for over 12 years but still found the talk from the local Blue Badge Guide really interesting and we learnt lots of things about the town we didn’t already know.
Mr & Mrs Duncan, Evesham
During our stay we took a drive to Porthcurno Beach - it was absolutely beautiful, I didn’t know it was possible for the sea to be such an amazing shade of turquoise.
Louise & David Lamb, Crewe
I liked building sandcastles on the beach with my Dad and one day we dug a really deep hole and the sea came in and filled it.
Tom, Age 7 from Sheffield
There’s a little shop in Newlyn, on the right hand side just before the small bridge, called JELBERT’S where they sell the most delicious homemade ice cream. You have to have one before you go home.
Mel, Bicester
As a regular visitor to St Ives, I find each visit to be memorable. This year, as previously, I saw KIDS ‘R’ US in a performance of Joseph and the Amazing TechnicolorDreamcoat. I recommend a visit to this local youth theatre and to their adult company, if they are performing.
G. Chamberlain, Vale of Glamorgan
The magic of St Ives always thrills me, the beautiful colours of the sea I could watch forever. My special walk is around the Island, I just love it all.

Sitting on Porthmeor Beach watching the sunset – idyllic!!
Amanda, Twickenham
I love to walk along the coast path to Carbis Bay, especially in the Spring when the hedgerow is sprinkled with wild flowers including primroses, violets and bluebells.
Mrs Johnson, Toddington
Watching from the hotel balcony throughout the week the ever changing light, colours and definition of the coastline over the bay – sometimes there is a lighthouse, sometimes just a small rocky island!

Mum & Dad bought me a new Body Board and I spent every day of our holiday in the sea with it. I can’t wait to bring it back next year.
Robbie, Worcester
It was a warm, sunny, Monday afternoon, the day after we had driven down from Penrith, so I’d been looking forward to a relaxing afternoon with nothing much in mind. I’d walked from the hotel down to the Harbour with my camera to “shoot some boats”. Stopping en route to buy a traditional pasty from the shop at the bottom of the hill, I arrived at the harbour with the smell of warm pastry and steak filling my senses and making my mouth water.
I sat on a bench, opened the paper bag and sat the pasty on the bag, I was ready for this! For some reason something caught my eye, so I put the pasty down on the bench and turned to take my camera from its bag. A rustle behind and I turned to see a gull perched on the wall happily munching away on a small scrap of pastry, laughing to myself I turned to pick up mine so we could share the moment together. Yes, you guessed it – this gull was happily munching away on MY pasty! I shouted “(something)” and the gull with an almighty squawk took to the air, “SPLAT” right on my camera bag.
A lasting memory of being done twice in one day!
Steve Jane, Titterington Coach Driver
. . . . our day was perfect from the pre-wedding to the ceremony through to the reception (fantastic menu) followed by the evening celebrations.
We did however have one downfall of the day (no, not even the weather as this was also perfect) it was the fact that the day just went so quickly and it was hard to take it all in, thank goodness for the invention of the video recorder and photography!!!!!
Giane & Sue Mortimer
Opening the bedroom curtains to early morning sunshine over Carbis Bay.
Avril & Brendan Commons
My favourite part of the trip was seeing all the cuddly toys in the shop on Fore Street and the giant teddy bear outside was very attractive. I liked the look of the Ty toys, especially the pumpkins! There are so many teddy bears there, I loved them all! The next time I come I will look at those teddies again.
Jesse Powell, aged 9 from Newport
Last time we stayed at Chy-an-Albany my Mum & Dad treated me to a cuddly Albany Bear wearing a fluffy white dressing gown and this time when we stayed I brought him back so he could say hello to all his friends.
Katie, Age 9
My most memorable moment during my stay at Chy-an-Albany Hotel was walking into the Sun Lounge at lunch time on 3rd April 2006 and seeing all my family surprising me on my 70 th Birthday, travelling from London, Berkshire, North Oxfordshire and Somerset! A wonderful moment facilitated by the warm welcome of the hotel and staff.
